Hello!
It is with great pleasure that St. Mary’s County Public Schools (SMCPS) announces the return of our annual STEM Festival! This year’s festival theme is Health and Wellness, and the STEM Festival Committee is excited to begin planning the event and welcoming everyone back to in-person STEM exploration. We are also excited to announce that this year’s festival will include the integration of the Arts! Our STEM festival will now be a STEAM festival!
If you are unfamiliar with STEM festivals, we welcome you to visit the Maryland STEM Festival page. Each year, the state designates a month-long celebration of all things science, technology, engineering, and math. This STEM-related exploration takes place through in person festivals and online events. Our local event will be held at the St. Mary’s County Fairgrounds on Saturday, October 30, 2021. Festivities will run from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm and will feature fun, food, and phenomena!
At this time, the SMCPS STEAM Festival planning committee would like to invite The Charles County Amateur Radio Club to participate in our event through running an hands-on, STEAM-activity for students and their families. In the past, community organizations have presented maker-spaces, shared information on watershed and soil preservation, or demonstrated everything from hydroponics to electrical circuitry. Blending your activity to this year’s theme of Health and Wellness is encouraged but not required. The idea is to share STEAM related content with our community and spread the visual of how STEAM contributes to their lives on a daily basis.
We will be adhering to up-to-date CDC guidelines. At the time of this email, masks are required for all exhibitors and participants. We will keep you updated about any changes to COVID-19 guidelines.
If you are interested in hosting a booth at our event, we request that you respond to this invitation by October 6, 2021.
Should you have any questions or would like more information about the STEAM Festival, please contact one of us. We look forward to hearing from you!
Regards,
The SMCPS STEAM Festival Committee
