FCC Public Notice Released (23 Mar 2022)

A Public Notice released by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) on March 23, 2022, in *MD Docket No. 20-270* (https://www.fcc.gov/document/effective-date-wireless-application-fee-rates), announced that new application fees for Wireless Telecommunications Bureau applications will become effective on April 19, 2022. The new fees were mandated by Congress.

The new $35 amateur radio license application fee will be required for any applications (except for administrative updates) received by the FCC on and after April 19, 2022.

Minor updates to your license, such as address, e-mail, telephone number changes, name changes, etc.,are considered “AU” or “Administrative Updates.”The FCC stated that there will be no fees required for these applications which are considered “AU” or “Administrative Updates”

If you are contemplating an upgrade or know folks who are considering an initial licensing test, they should be encouraged to do so before the 19th of April “while the price is right.”
